WHAT IS A HASHING ALGORITHM A HAVAL224,4

HAVAL224,4 (or Haval-224 with a hash length of 224 bits and 4 rounds) is one version of the HAVAL hashing algorithm that was developed in China in the late 1990s. HAVAL was one of five hashing algorithms selected in 2007 for the NIST competition for a new hashing standard, SHA-3. However, in the end, the competition was won by another algorithm - Keccak.

HAVAL224,4 works with messages of arbitrary length and generates a 224-bit hash code. The algorithm consists of several iterations (rounds), in each of which the bytes of the message are rearranged and replaced. HAVAL224,4 provides a sufficient level of collision resistance and prevents the original message from being reconstructed from its hash code. However, it is currently recommended to use more modern hashing algorithms such as SHA-3 or BLAKE2.
